Combining classic SEO and GEO for AI answers
By Kevin Kröger, Geschäftsführer, Software und Plattformbetrieb
GEO does not replace classic search engine optimization. Technical accessibility, clear pages, helpful content and comprehensible sources remain the basis. Content becomes easier to use for AI answers if it answers questions directly, clearly categorizes terms and visibly supports statements.
Which SEO fundamentals remain unchanged?
Search systems must be able to retrieve a page, understand it and assign it to a unique URL. This includes working internal links, sensible titles, canonicals, a well-maintained sitemap and content that answers the visible user problem. Google expressly states that no special additional optimization is required for AI Overviews and AI Mode and that the existing SEO basics continue to apply.
What makes content useful for answers?
Start with a short, reliable answer and then explain boundaries, procedures and evidence. Use clear subheadings, visible authors, update dates, and primary sources. Structured data only supports classification if it matches the visible content. An additional file or a new keyword cannot compensate for a lack of technical substance.
How can effects be seriously observed?
Check technical indexing, relevant search queries, qualified entries and actual contact channels together. Additionally, monitor which pages appear in search functions or traceable links without treating any single visibility as a guaranteed channel. Revise content as sources, products, or user questions change. GEO is therefore an editorial and technical maintenance process, not a one-off trick.
