Local SEO and GEO: Substance instead of exchanged place names
By Kevin Kröger, Geschäftsführer, Software und Plattformbetrieb
A regional page is only useful if it answers a local question independently. A real location, a service area and a mere mention of a place are different statements. Content, schema and internal linking must consistently reflect this reality.
When does a location need its own page?
A site needs a distinguishable demand and concrete added value, such as regional responsibility, directions, availability or local requirements. Without this substance, a central regional hub is more helpful than many almost identical sites.
Which scheme fits?
LocalBusiness describes an actual location. Service with areaServed is suitable for a service area without a branch. Structured Data may not claim an establishment, rating or performance that does not exist on the Site and in reality.
What also helps in AI answers?
Short, direct answers, clear terms, comprehensible sources, authorship and topicality make content quotable. A special technical abbreviation does not replace technical quality or good crawlability.
When should a new city side not be created?
Avoid having your own page if only the place name, a distance or general text would be exchanged. Google describes several broadly similar city or region pages that only lead visitors to the same intended destination as possible doorway abuse. A clear service area page is then more honest, easier to maintain and quicker to understand for users.

Frequently asked questions
- Should every accessible city have its own page?
- No. A separate page needs its own use. Otherwise, a clear list of service areas is better.
- Is llms.txt a ranking factor?
- There is no general proof of this. It can provide guidance, but it does not replace crawlability or high-quality content.
